A Calm, Personal Approach To Therapy
Online Psychotherapy and Counselling
How It Works
Online therapy makes it easier to get the support you need, wherever you are. I offer sessions through Zoom, so you can speak to me from home, work or anywhere else feels comfortable. You don’t need to travel, and video calls are simple to use. Many people find this a convenient and reliable way to access therapy.
Therapy Online
What I Offer
I am an accredited integrative psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience, and the internet counselling I offer is non-judgemental, objective and highly professional. I see my job as actively listening to you so that you are really understood. Using my skills and experience, we then go on to work collaboratively and find the best way forward for you.
The first 15 minutes of an initial session are free, giving you time to decide if I’m the right person to help. The quickest way to book is to choose a convenient time through the online system, or contact me directly
Is Online Counselling Right For Me?
If you’re familiar with using these apps and feel comfortable talking online, either by video or voice, this may be a good option for you. Online counselling can be a helpful alternative to traditional face-to-face sessions, particularly for people who:
- Wish to see a therapist outside the area that you live.
- Want an online session if you travel with work.
- Are living with a condition that limits your ability to travel.
- Have an issue that you want to deal with and don’t have the time to come and see me in my therapy room.
How To
The easiest way by far is to book a session by choosing a time that suits you in the Book online section in the above main menu. You can choose a date and time that is suitable for you.
Alternatively, you can use the Contact me form, email me, or if you prefer you can telephone me.
How Can I Help You?
What Happens Next?
When I receive your booking or enquiry you will be asked to fill out a short form to let me know the difficulties you are having. If you have made a booking you will receive a confirmation email to let you know the time and date of your online session. I may contact you to ask you for further details from your form. At this stage, anycontact between us is free of charge. My priority is your welfare and establishing that online counselling will be useful and appropriate for you.
We will also clarify how you wish to have your online session, how to contact you for your planned session, and any emergency contact details in case of disconnection during the session. I currently use Zoom or WhatsApp as they are both encrypted and secure.
Online Therapy Starts
I contact you via the agreed method. We make sure our connection is good enough to hear and see each other clearly. I then give you time to explain what difficulty you are having and therapy begins.
You can book online today to start getting the support you need.
After you have booked your session it may be a good idea to come back and review the Recommended Surroundings section below to ensure your session goes smoothly and you get the most out of it.
If You Decide to choose online therapy
Recommended Surroundings for an Online Counselling Session
Online counselling works best when you feel calm, comfortable and fully present. Creating the right environment at your end helps the session feel as personal and supportive as it would in person.
Following these essential steps will help to make your online sessions as productive as possible:
Be Comfortable
Make sure you are at home, or somewhere that you feel safe, comfortable, and able to speak freely. If possible, make sure you’re alone or, at the very least, undisturbed and without distractions. You should be able to give the session, and yourself, the fullest attention. If you are using a smartphone rather than a computer, try to be indoors where you can be heard and understood.
Good Internet Connection
Make sure that you have a strong internet connection. Connection issues can cause stress and disruption making it harder to settle into your session. It’s a good idea to test the connection before the session begins to make sure the session is not broken.
Secure Internet Connection
Ensure that you are using a secure, password protected and private, internet connection. Your home broadband should be password protected and suitable, as will be the mobile internet on your smart phone – just be mindful of data charges. Avoid using public WiFi hot-spots or shared networks as they can’t garantee privacy or confidentiality.
Further Security
For added privacy, you may choose to use a secure server, a virtual private network (VPN), or encrypted email services like Hushmail for communication.
When is this Not a Good Option?
There are areas in which online counselling is not a useful alternative. For example, hypnotherapy is usually more effective in person rather than online.I do not offer online sessions to clients under the age of 18 years unless the arrangement has been made by a parent or guardian.
